Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product fits 40 gal tank We bought our rock filter filter 3 years ago,our 3 turtles love it. With 3 turtles we have to clean filter every 2 weeks. First we thought rocks to steep so we built a ramp, then we found turtles climbing up the steepest side no problem and took ramp out. Filter does keep water clean, we rinse out filters every 2 weeks and only replace every 2 months, keep cost down. If we every get another tank we will get another rock filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 Broken within a couple of months Bought two of these and within a couple of months both make loud grinding noises coming from the pump. They still function but are terribly loud. I've tried adjusting the metal rod that the prop fits onto but no luck. Don't buy this product if you are working with sand base. That is the only thing I can figure would do this unless it happens to all of them .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is Fantastic I just bought this because my old filter broke the turles love it. Great bargin plus it comes with two filters inside already. Keeps the tank clean and best of all the turtles can climb on it to get some basking time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous pump, best I have ever had. I own four of them! However the pump does burn out every couple years but you can buy a replacement: http://www.tetra-fish.com/Pond/Products/garden-fish-pond-equipment/garden-pond-pumps/statuary-fountain-pond-pumps.aspx but I have yet to purchase one, just found this out today. The filters cost is annoying, if you changes filters every week the water will stay really nice but you will still have to get in and scrub gunk out twice a year. Still best pump I have ever had.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor filtration/turtle unable to climb to bask This product can't keep my 35 gal tank (filled half full) for even a month. Plus, this is advertised for turtles. If you leave the water level at the fill line, there is NO WAY for a turtle to climb on the top to bask. Extremely disappointed!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from with some mods it works great I used nylon mesh stockings around the pump and shaved an arch in the lipOfthe lid to allow a better flow

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but doesn't last I've had this filter for a year and it works AMAZINGLY, but my only concern is that it wears out quicker then you would expect. I had to buy a new one today because the side cracked. Besides that it has so many uses and worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps tank clean and clear I have 2 of these 1 in each of my turtle tanks. It gives them a platform to bask under the light. The filters for it are easy to get and reasonably priced. I only have to clean the tank fully once a month. Easy to clean.

Where do I buy a Pump Replacement for this Repto filter?

Asked by: AnaJG3
This takes the Tetra Pond SP (short for statuary pump) 140 GPH. It is available at locally owned garden centers, and pet stores, as well as through www.123ponds.com. BREX

I purchased one of these off of amazon and I was wondering if It were submersible?

Asked by: Kenzies
Thank you for purchasing this Tetra product! Yes...and no....it can certainly be submerged but you will not get the waterfall effect. Also, the filter will not filter as thoroughly, as debris will bypass the cartridges. Ideal setting is to have the water level to just below the top of the filter housing. BREX

can I purchase filters (replacement) that fit into the Reptile Reptofiler and if so what would be the cost and shipping ?. thank you

Asked by: Jay1234
Unfortunately, we do not sell direct. The filters are available through local fish and pet stores as well as chain pet stores too. They are also on several pet online vendor sites. You need the Medium Sized Whisper Bio Bag. You can find these in both the reptile and the fish departments. BREX

I bought this product and have only had it running for a month. The pump is now not working! I work in a school and am a little frustrated that it did not last long. Is there any way to get a replacement pump?

Asked by: Science Teacher
We are sorry to hear that this has happened. Most likely you need to just take the pump apart to clean it. To do so, unplug it and remove it from the waterfall. Pressing your thumb into the bottom cover, pull simultaneously towards the front of the pump. This will pop a L-shaped cover off of the pump. On the front underneath this cover, is a tear drop shaped cover for lack of a better description. Popped this off as well, then pull out the propeller blades you find underneath. Clean them well, and using a q tip, swab out the inside of the motor. This typically should be performed every month or two, depending on the tank's inhabitants and décor. For more assistance, please give us a call at 1-800-526-0650. We will return to the office on December 27. BREX

I have heard a couple of times that you can put your submersible water heater inside the filter. Is that true?

Asked by: AngelasTurtle
Thank you for your interest in this product! Unfortunately, we would not recommend that as the filter area could empty out the water, if the slots in the base become clogged, leading to an issue with the heater. BREX

where can I get replacement pump to fit it? I think it burned out when the water level got too low over the weekend (tank is in the classroom).

Asked by: DrLiz
I would first try cleaning it, as that may be all it needs. Unplug it, remove it from the "rock" and pull the front cover off of it. You'll see another round cover underneath it so pull that one off too. Use a butter knife gently, if you need something to help pry either of them off. Once they are off, pull the propeller blades out. Clean them, and use a q tip to swab out the inside of the little motor. If this does not work, the pump to purchase is the SP140 Tetra Pond Statuary Pump. BREX

how safe is this filter from being shocked, with the filter in the water?

Asked by: JZeke
Extremely safe. It is fully sealed, and it has the UL stamp of approval. I do not recall a single case of it ever shocking anyone. BREX
