Perfect pumps for pond waterfalls, streams and more!

The Tetra Debris-Handling Pump provides clog-free performance for power filters and waterfalls. This energy efficient pump is engineered for continuous operation and can handle debris up to ¼ inch in size—allowing you to clean your pond, not your pump!

How It Works

Tetra Debris-Handling Pumps are engineered to circulate large volumes of pond water without clogging. This allows the pump to operate for long periods of time without any maintenance. Water, dirt, and debris are drawn through the quarter inch holes in the large pre-filter cage that surrounds the pump. The pre-filter cage prevents leaves, sticks, and other large debris from entering the pump. It also protects the fish from the pump’s impeller. The open-face impeller allows debris up to 1/4 in. in diameter to pass through the pump without clogging. The pond water with dirt and debris are pumped to an external filter for removal or directly to a waterfall or stream.

Flow Performance
Determine how high you waterfall will be from the pond surface. The higher the top of the waterfall is from the pond surfaces, the less flow will result. Take a look at the charts below for the approximate waterfall effect the Debris-Handling Pumps will create at various pumping heights.

  • Rugged Debris Handling Pump impeller can pass 1/4 in. debris without clogging
  • Large basket minimizes blockage and maintenance
  • Energy-efficient unidirectional impeller and motor
  • Wear-resistant and anti-corrosive ceramic shaft for longer life
  • Epoxy encapsulation protects motor from water intrusion
  • Outlet size fits tubing 1-1/2 inches or 1-1/4 inches in internal diameter
  • 15 foot electrical cord
  • 120 VAC, 60 Hz

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so far so good I have a leaf problem in my pond, so I replaced my old pump with this one, and so far it has really helped. No more need to pull the pump and clean the debris every few days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flow rate This is my second debris handling pump and I continue to be satisfied with construction and dependability of these care free pumps. My fish love the flow rate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse This is my second pump. The first one is 7 years old and still going strong. So easy to use, just hook it up and plug it in. No prefilters to mess with. It's a messy pond with turtles and I've never had it clog up.They cost a little more than some pumps but you'll save even more by not having to buy a new one every couple of years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the DHP This is the 2nd of this type / brand of pump we've owned. The first one lasted 8+ years and kept the pond very happy. We have a 900+ gallon pond with large goldfish that we "rescue" from the bait store. :-)

I have a 3600 dhp. My tubing is 12 ft long. The vertical rise is almost 4 ft. Now for the question, could I plumb a "y" inlet inside my plumbing and add a second one. This goes to a 45 gallon baller filter I made with 1 1/2" internal gravity outlet

Asked by: IanD
Add a second one of what? You can definitely add a Y and operate two items from this pump, depending on what they are and where they would be located. BREX

I have a 2,000 gallon pond with a separate bog filter fed by a pump, that then falls about 2 feet down to the main pond. My previous pump was a Little Giant with 1,900 gph flow. Would the Tetra with its 3600 gph flow be too much water for a bog filter?

Asked by: Jim Z
That depends on the size of the bog, and the distance between the pump and the bog, but most likely no. I have a 3000 gallon pond and at one point had a large bog, about 3 feet by 5 feet, and a foot deep. I used this pump to operate it, and it worked perfectly. The bog was very healthy and full of live plants. The pond was amazingly clear. If you do find the flow is a bit too strong, you can insert a PVC Y between the pump and the bog, and split the flow off. I doubt you will need to do this, however. I think the bog will be fine, and your waterfall even more impressive. BREX

Can I use this pump with bio active filter, waterfall, and fountain and where do i get the parts to do so?

Asked by: cherylc
You can certainly use it with the filter, and a waterfall, but it will not operate a fountain. You need to buy each item separately, through a local garden center. The tubing, hose clamps, etc., you purchase through a DIY hardware store. BREX

The 3600 model we have takes pulls in water and into the pipe for the filter. But there is also water output on one side of the pump. Is that normal?

Asked by: SandraK
We would need to see this to understand what you are seeing. Can you email a picture or a video to BREX

my pump seemed to slow down flow is there something i can do i cleaned it and still dont push enough water like it use to it is about 3yrs old this year i have a 3600dhp

Asked by: Joescope
We would recommend setting it in a tub of white vinegar and soaking it for about 15 minutes. You may have deposits that only vinegar will remove. Also, you can open the cage and get a more thorough cleaning done on the inside. Again, we recommend white vinegar for this as well. BREX
