The Bio-Active Pressure Filter works to keep your pond clean and healthy with both mechanical and biological filtration. This easy-to-use filter features a unique open profile bio-activator that provides a large surface area and unrestricted water flow to all surfaces for improved filtering. A simple back flush valve allows for fast cleaning.

Mechanical Filtration
Pond water flows down through the bio-activators which remove suspended debris and dirt from the water.

Biological Filtration

Biological Filtration occurs on the massive surface areas found in the bio-activators. Beneficial bacteria will naturally colonize on the surface area and convert harmful pollutants in the water into relatively harmless nitrates, which are absorbed by the aquatic plants and removed by partial water changes. This is known as the “Nitrogen Cycle”.

Bio-Activators

Bio-Active Pressure Filters come equipped with bio-activators which offer superior filtration and back flush performance over foam. In normal filtration operation, these bio-activators easily trap dirt and debris from your pond and because of their shape they provide a large active surface area for the beneficial bacteria to colonize for upgraded biological filtration. During the back flush operation, bio-activators provide unrestricted water flow to all the surfaces so that dirt and debris are thoroughly removed while leaving the beneficial bacteria on the bio-activator surfaces intact and robust.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Leaking seal Had the pump running for several months. Came home one day to see my pond half empty. Water was leaking from the top seal. Not sure where to get a replacement seal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job. Second year in service for the PFL 1500. Adapter broke twice. Too much tension from the rubber one-inch tubing to it. Need more replacement apapters. My bad that this is what it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad results The idea you can turn a valve and clean the filter and pond of dirty water sounds nice but has not worked for my pond. Lots of dirty water flows back into the pond when I cycle the valve. Haven't had a clear pond water yet since I installed filter months ago. Just doesn't clean water like bio-filter did. Also, backflush valve continually leaks in closed position. Tetrs bio-filter worked better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bio filter-easy maintenance I started pounding in 1999 and switched to this biofilter for my 2000 gallon pond about three years ago. It was carried by a water garden business which had been around for 25-30 years in my area. They only carry the best products. I ran 1-1/2 " PVC from my pump and was able to supply a nice stream of water to my waterfall. We have not had one issue with this set up. The built-in uv light works great. It's absolutely easy to clean every few weeks- less than 5 minutes. In October when the weather in Michigan gets cold, I can break the system down easily to winterize it for the spring. I would definitely purchase this biofilter again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inlet/Outlet issues The filter appears to be working as it should. However, the inlet and outlet connectors that come with the unit are too large for the plumbing I normally use for my pond. I have a pressure filter with UV from another manufacturer that has the smaller outlet connectors and I much prefer the "other" manufacturer's product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had it for 3 years, no problems I'm using the filter with a 4200 gph pump in an 1800 gallon pond with lots of koi fish. I have had no problems with the water unless i over feed the fish or it gets really hot for a few days, then i do a 10% water change in the pond. I do water test regularly for ammonium, ph, etc.. And this filter keeps the water at a stable level. You must treat your pond as if it were a big aquarium, same precautions and principles apply to a pond. You must also have lotsnof shade or pond plants on the pond.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't complain. I am on my 4th year with this filter and I am very pleased. I have a 1,700 gallon pond and I am pushing about 3,600 gph through it. When I backwash every month I get a healthy load of "dirt" out of this beast and at the end of the season I really see what has been filtered out and it is ugly. It takes me about two hours to clean it well but it is definitely worth it. Ask my fish!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Never seemed to really work much! I've had this Bio-Pressure filter 4000 for my pond and even after opening up and cleaning out all the media since backwashing only gets a portion, maintaining my UV light, replacing the tube and fixing the pressure tube that seems to collapse, it still doesn't due much. Time for a change.

I have the 1500 gallon pressure filter. I read that I can use 1.5 inch hose to connect the filter to pump and the filter to the waterfall. The connections that I received only go to 1.25 inches. Are there separate fittings I need to buy?

Asked by: Lovi
No, it comes with stepped down adapters. The 1.5" is all the way to the back of it the adapter. The smaller tip is for the 1.25". BREX

Can this be effectively used in a 250 g pond on a roof deck with full sun all day?

Asked by: Lori wildflower goldfish
Definitely, although the flow rate you will need to operate this efficiently (at least 2500 gph) may be a bit much for the pond. I would still try it, as this would give you a flow rate of all the water through the filter 10 times an hour, which is ideal if you are housing fish. You can always install a ball valve to reduce flow from the pump, if necessary. BREX

I have filter in pond mode not clean mode. Why would there be water coming out the back flush port when I take the plastic stopper off?

Asked by: Platinum
Because the pump is not shut off, apparently. That is why there is a cover for that port. BREX
