does this replace tetra blackwater extract?

Asked by: jaba the hut
No, it is a pond product to help clarify the pond water and eliminate algae, but you could use it in a freshwater tank to create Amazonian conditions. It should darken the water, and soften it like Blackwater Extract did. BREX

How many litres of pond water will one bootle of 'Peat and Straw Extract" Treat ???

Asked by: Custard cats
There is no statement on the front of the bottles that we had!!!! refers to back of the label = not anything. The new 250ml bottle we just bought states on the rear label that it will dose 5750 litres. However, it also states " IMPORTANT REFER TO INSTRUCTION LABEL BEFORE USE" There are no instructions regarding frequency of dosing

Does the Barley/Peat extract come in a larger size, perhaps gallons?? Can your products be ordered by the consumer directly from you or do we need to buy through a store/dealer???

Asked by: Pam 61
The answer to both questions, unfortunately, is no. We only have the one size, and we do not sell direct. There are a lot of online vendors that carry this product, however. www.amazon.com, www.webbsonline.com, www.thatpetplace.com. BREX

Q1: Does it affect pond plants? - Q2: Does it help with algae? - Q3: I saw you said it turns the water dark for a while... How long does it take to get "clear water" effect I am looking for? - Q4: How much + how often for a 12ftx12ft pond (depth: ~1ft)?

Asked by: giorgio92
Q1 - no, not at all, it is all natural Q2 - Mostly with suspended algae in the water, not much with hair or string algae Q3 - every pond varies, but up to a week usually Q4 - once a week, and treat for a pond of 1000-1100 gallons. BREX

Can this product be used to soften hard water for freshwater aquarium?

Asked by: Squeaky
Thank you for your interest in this Tetra product! Yes, it can actually be used for that purpose as well. However, it will turn your water very dark for several days, due to the peat in the product. Since it is designed for ponds, this helps reduce the effect of sunlight on the water. You may not like the effect so much in an aquarium, however, as it will make your tank look similar to the Amazon with all of its tannins. BREX

Is it safe for my 13 year old cat to drink water from my pond while using this product? He is in good physical health and doesn't frequently drink from the pond.

Asked by: Jenniferlee23
Yes, this is an all naturel product. However, ponds can carry protozoa which can cause tummy upsets. BREX
