AquaSafe® PLUS BioExtract formula contains seaweed extracts (natural biopolymers), which support the development of beneficial filter bacteria for healthy and clear water. The added ingredients help to reduce aquarium pollution by strengthening the bacterial bed. As always, Tetra's AquaSafe® PLUS water conditioner makes tap water safe for fish.
• Works in seconds to neutralize chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals present in tap water that can be harmful to fish.
• One teaspoon treats 10 gallons.
• Provides a slime coating to help wounds heal and protect fish from abrasions. Unique colloid ingredients have been designed to protect fish’s delicate gills and membranes.
• AquaSafe® PLUS can be used with freshwater and marine fish.
• AquaSafe® PLUS is the market leading water conditioner brand in the U.S. and has been protecting fish for more than 35 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works great, can't store it. The product works fine but after purchasing a bottle I thought was bad I purchased four bottles from four different sources. Every single bottle goes rancid days after it is opened. It's stored in a dark space at 68-70*. I've used this product for quite some time without issue and suddenly it has ZERO shelf life after being opened.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incompatiable with Protein Skimmer Nowhere on the package or on this website does it indicate this product will cause protein skimmers to over-foam.I've confirmed with the manufacturer of my skimmer that: "A “slime producing” additive e.g. Aqua Plus, AquaSafe, Stress Coat….." "These additives contain thick gel like agents that are not compatible with the vigorous air/water mixing that occurs in a venturi-style skimmer."It takes upwards of three weeks for the AquaSafe Plus to degrade and the protein skimmer to function as designed. This has resulted in additional aquarium operating costs in the way of additional RO and salt to perform the frequent necessary water changes to compensate for the lost nutrient export capacity. Water changes do not correct the problem because the product coats the inside surfaces of the tank.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Prefer older "Aqua Safe" product This product is more concentrated than the old product (new product uses 1 tsp to treat 10 gal, old product uses 1 tsp to treat 5 gal). I avoided the other water conditioner products because they were too concentrated. I use 5 gallon jugs for my water exchanges, and adding only 1/2 tsp has a greater risk of adding too much or too little.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from testing I used AquaPlus for a water change and now my fish are gasping at the surface. Concerned, I tested the water and got high readings of ammonia. I tested a new batch of water treated with AquaPlus and lo and behold, same level ammonia. I now either have a false positive and mysteriously afflicted fish or I've been poisoning my fish all along. Thanks, Tetra.

I bought a large bottle of your Aqua Safe Plus and while I have used your products for 20 years this is my first complaint! The product "STINKS" and not just a little, a lot! I have the 33.8 oz size! Any suggestions?

Asked by: miamifootball
This means that somewhere along the way to your home, whether during shipping to the store or whenever, it became exposed to extreme heat which caused oxidation of the product. We recommend returning it to the store to exchange it. If you need any assistance with this, please call 1-800-526-0650. BREX

Can i use dechlorinator that is 7 years old? The bottle I have was used maybe 6 times and is still full. I put it in a drawer so no direct sunlight has gotten to it.

Asked by: peterpanlover
Shelf life is 3 years. After that time, it loses strength. As long as it has not oxidized, it may be okay, but we cannot make any guarantees. Oxidation will make it smell so bad, it will make you gag when you remove the lid. BREX

Does this product get old? I see there are dates on the bottom of the bottle, are these use by dates?

Asked by: CART
Yes, those are use by dates. However, the product does not become toxic or totally stop working by then. It starts losing some of its efficacy as time goes on past that date. BREX

Can this be added directly into the tank with the fish in it? Or does it have to be mixed in a gallon jug outside the tank then poured into the tank with the fish?

Asked by: Erica86
You can use it either way, although if doing a large water change, ideally, it should be mixed outside the tank. BREX
