Aquarium Equipment Glitch?

There’s a good chance you can fix it yourself.

The Glitch:

Loss of power -OR- Sounds very loud

The Fix:

Replace the worn-out rubber diaphragm:

The Glitch:

Not maintaining the correct temperature

The Fix:

Make sure it’s been in operation for 36 hours. The heater will slowly raise or lower the temperature over time, which prevents a large temperature swing that can shock the fish. Check your water temperature with a submersible thermometer or, better yet, a strip thermometer that adheres to the glass. If the heater is not working properly, feel free to contact us anytime, or visit your local pet store.

SAFETY NOTE: Never remove a heater from the water if it is still turned on. Unplug it first, let it cool and then remove it.

TETRA FILTER

(specifically for the Whisper® Power Filter from Tetra)

The Glitch:

The magnetic impeller assembly becomes clogged with debris (fish waste, mineral deposits, etc.) and the filter stops.

The Fix:

Clean off the debris:

  • Remove the magnetic impeller assembly from the filter.
  • Place the impeller assembly in white vinegar and soak for 15-30 minutes, then rinse in warm water.
  • Use a Q-tip® and vinegar to swab out the impeller reservoir and intake tube, then rinse with water.
  • Put the magnetic impeller assembly back together. Be sure the magnet and the white blades are connected as one piece. If they have become separated, you will need a new impeller.
