Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful The filter doesn't even have all the pieces! Very awful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works extremely well I used to own this power filter in the past for my 10 gallon aquarium the price was very reasonable where I had purchased it which was at my local Walmart. It was quiet simple straightforward and did exactly as it was designed to do. Overall to me it's a classic and I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noisy? I have never had an issue with noise with any of my whisper filters and I have several tanks. If you look at the construction, the only way it could make noise is if someone is using it improperly, there are no parts that rub on one another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long lasting! I came to this site simply to look up the filters, but when I saw the negative ratings I just could not leave without leaving a comment. I have had a 10 Gal (since 1995) and a 20 Gal (since 2006) Whisper filter each, and they are still going strong. I have had to replace the impeller in each once. Other than that, they have been maintenance free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent filter for aquariums under 100 Gals. My Whisper 60 has excellent filtering properties and has the appropriate suction to handle the job. I have had aquariums for over 50 years -- from 5 gal to LARGE -- and my current tank is 55 Gal. I have used inside filters (corner and under-gravel) and outside filters, as well as canister filters, and the Whisper 60 is perfect for my 55 Gal. setup. Regarding complaints about noise, bubbles, etc; i believe (based upon past experience) such problems are usually caused because the filter tube pickup was too close to the sand which allowed sand to be picked up and the sand interfered with the impellers. Regarding noise, if the pickup tubes are NOT properly secured and the connections not tight, then air will infiltrate the suction tubes and create bubbles and produce noise. IF the tubes are connected property and are tight, IF the impeller is properly installed, and IF the pick-up tubes are kept away from the sand, this filter is very quite!! I suspect any reviews stating noise problems are probably due to improper assembly or installation. I have 2 Whisper 60 filters in use., Both of my Whisper 60 filters are quiet and problem free! A great filter and well worth the investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ok product, don't fall for the bogus $10 rebate Works well enough, but don't fall for the "up to $10" rebate sticker. It's only $5 when, because the higher amount only applies to a product that isn't found anywhere I can see -- stores, Tetra website, Amazon, etc.

Where does the suction cups go?

Asked by: linda94
That depends on which filter you own. The one represented on the product page you attached does not come with suction cups. Our internal filters, however, do. There should be openings on the back of the filter body that the suction cups insert into. I recommend you call 1-800-526-0650 for additional help. BREX

I have the whisper PF 10, and I noticed that water comes out the large main area like it's supposed too, but water also comes out over the tube section, like it is overflowing. Is this supposed to happen? is the water being filtered correctly?

Asked by: johnconnor
This occurs when there is a clog. Try rinsing the cartridge, cleaning out the bottom of the filter box, and cleaning out the intake tube. Don't forget to remove debris, hair like strands or slime from the impeller as well. BREX

How do you change the filler near the motor where the water goes in ?

Asked by: Masyn
If you own the Whisper Power Filter, the fuzzy cartridge should be pulled out and replaced with a new one once a month. The bio foam, a black spongy item, should be gently rinsed once a month, not replaced. You only replace it if it loses its "springiness". BREX

My filter didnt work from the get go. It is making a loud rattling sound as soon as I put it into the tank and plugged it in. How do I fix this?

Asked by: Nanz
Make sure the water level in the tank is to the top of the tank, and that you have filled the filter as well. You might also want to pull out the intake tube and inspect the impeller for any issues. Last, make sure the intake tube is pushed all the way into the filter, without it being jammed. BREX

Suddenly my intake doesn't work. If I push it all the way in it is silent but doesn't intake water, if I pull it out some it pulls up water but is very loud. Please advise.

Asked by: Nskinner
The first thing to do is take the filter off of the tank and take it apart. Clean out the motor and the bottom of the filter box. Also, clean the impeller and intake tube. Remove any sludge, algae or hair-like strands from the impeller and clean out the intake. Inspect it for any wear and tear or damage as well. If you are unable to resolve it, call in for some more troubleshooting. 1-800-526-0650. BREX

Took apart filter to clean and now can't seem to re-establish siphon. Pump and impeller seem to be working okay. Any simple tricks to restart this.

Asked by: Grumpy
Thanks for asking, Grumpy! Try putting some water in the back of the filter and making sure the water level is above the intake. For help troubleshooting call Tetra at 1-800-526-0650. We are happy to help!
