Thank you for your interest in this product! When purchasing the air pump, also purchase a check valve, and approximately 6-8 feet of airline tubing, as well as the air stone or air ornament you want to operate in your tank. If you plan to have more than one item producing air for you, then you will also want a gang valve or manifold in order to do this, and quite possibly a tee, depending on which size pump you purchase.
To install, the air pump is outside of the tank, of course. Push one end of the airline tubing onto the port or ports of the air pump. Cut it about 8" from the air pump and insert the check valve. This prevents water from backing into and destroying the pump if power shuts off. Now attach the remaining air line tubing and run it to air stone, bubble wand or ornament inside the tank. This will also have a port on it, and you just push the tubing onto this port as well. Plug the air pump into a power strip with surge protection, and allow it several hours to fully begin to push air through whatever you attached it to.
