Whisper® Internal Aquarium Power Filters

The Tetra Whisper internal aquarium filter is the ultimate in quiet, convenient 3-stage filtration. The dual-sided mesh of the Bio-Bag® catches debris and fish waste while the activated carbon absorbs odors and discoloration. Biological filtration is provided by the Bio-Scrubber. Bio-Scrubber's anti-clog design provides complete biological filtration with the convenience of less maintenance. Because the Bio-Scrubber has a solid back, water is forced to flow evenly over the bacteria-rich bristles. The filter is submersible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I cannot attach whisper 3i to my tank..... I think that Tetra Whisper filters are amazing products… However the new innovative clip attachment method falls short of the functionality of the simple suction cups. Because of this, The filter I bought is completely and utterly useless, because I cannot attach it to my tank properly. Instead of flowing properly and filtering in my tank it sits there and bubbles because of the angle at which it sits. Thanks Tetra...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter for the money This filter performs just as well as its more expensive counterparts. It is quiet and provides biological filtration. The filters are easy to change and can be found in most places that sell aquarium supplies.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tetra I3 - New design sucks! Tetra I3 which has ALWAYS had suction cups. This new one won't work with my tank now. The clip makes it sit diagonally. Wasted money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible The rate of flow is too high for it's own filters. After 2 days the water just runs up and over the filter media. Since the rate of flow is not adjustable, you have no real filtration happening. Even a brand new filter only lasts a day or 2. Definitely should have been built with an adjustable intake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I have a 60 gal tank which I use for turtles I the winter time. I have 2 filters on a 60 gallon tank which I keep 1/3 full. Keeps the water clean even with the 3o feeder fish I start out the winter with. It's quite easy to change bio bags and clean both filters in less than 30 minutes. I had a problem (customer caused) with one of the filter I had bought 3-4 years ago, and called Tetra for a replacement part. They advised the part was not available but dent me a new filter fee of charge. That is great customer service. Thanks!!!.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sand might halt filter If you use sand in your tank might have to do more matinance. Sometime sand night get stuck in the filter, if you pull the filter apart and pull the fan out you need to clean the sand out of that and it should work fine. The manual doesn't tell you this, I had to figure it out on my own, otherwise it's is a great filter for a crab tank since you can't use external filters for them (darn escape artists)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great I have a 1.5 gallon tank for a Beta so I use the 3i filter. It does a great job and is nice and quiet except for the power box (?) that's attached to the cord and tube. It rattles so I put it on a small cloth to stop the sound.

I have 2 underwater whisper filters in my 55 gal tank  both  have lids  and are great.1 has stopped I cant find any that are the same??? The closest I could find is a 20-40 no lid ..The lid from my own  fits pretty well .Question is ,,Can I submerge it ?

Asked by: kita
If you have not taken the motor apart yet, that may be all that your old one needs done. I suspect the impeller needs cleaning. Remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver to take the cover off. Disconnect the motor, then slide the bottom piece off, pull out the impeller, and clean it, and the inside of the motor. We do not make a version with a lid that is sold separately. Yours came with the tank when you bought it as a kit The Whisper 40i is the one you would need as a replacement. I have run one in a tank, submerged and it worked well for me, but it is recommended to have the water level at the spillway and the filter should be about an inch or so below the top frame of the tank.BREX

Why is my whisper 10i power filter humming?

Just recently cleaned and did water change on my 5 gallon fish tank as well as my Whisper 10I and now it's humming. I have had the tank for just over a year and it has never done this. I cleaned the filter housing and bio scrubber and just replaced with new bio bag. Took the bottom off of the filter housing and pulled the impeller out of the housing and scrubbed the impeller and the housing. Put it all back together and it's still humming. I can't get the noise to go away. It's driving me and my fish nuts!!!!!!

Buzzing is usually a voltage issue, so if you have it plugged straight into an outlet, plug it into a power strip instead.BREX

How can I turn the flow speed down?

The water coming out of the filter is coming out very fast, I have tried less water in the tank, and I have had water all the way up to the mouth of filer
Asked by: Mark101
Unless you have the smallest one that comes with the little desktop kits, these filters do not have a flow control and cannot be adjusted. You can place a cluster of plants in front of them to help break it up, however.BREX

My tank is foam and has bubbles from my filter. Why is that happening.

This is the type of filter I have TETRA® WHISPER IN TANK POWER AQUARIUM FILTERS.
Asked by: Chef
You have too much protein in the water. Do a 25% partial water change, and put some new, fresh water into the tank. Cut back on what you are feeding, as overfeeding is what usually causes this issue. Keep in mind that fish have small stomachs, about the size of their eyes, so 1-2 pieces of food per small fish is usually plenty.BREX

Why is water overflowing from the pump out of my tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank with the Whisper 2-10 Filter. Last night I walked into the room to find water on the floor because the water was coming out of the filter and overflowing out of the back of the tank. I thought maybe one of my children might have bumped it or something so I took the tank and moved it to my kitchen counter, took the filter out and put it back in. Everything was fine overnight but again today I have a huge puddle of water from the tank that's coming from the back part of the filter. I have everything installed correctly. Any suggestions?
Asked by: MGMeaux
There are two possible reasons. The main and most likely one is the filter is not installed correctly; it is up too high in the tank. The top of the filter should be at least 1" below the top frame of the tank. The second possible cause is there is a clog. Either the filter cartridge needs changing or you need to pull off the motor, remove the impeller, and clean it, because the filter is flowing too slowly, preventing water from pushing through the cartridge properly. When this happens, it "backs up" and flows over the back of the filter.BREX

Does the filter come with one cartridge or do I need to buy it separately?

Asked by: Med95
Good morning,The filter should come with one cartridge for the installation of your filter system and then you purchase the replacements. If you were missing this, we will email you directly for more information on getting a replacement as a courtesy.MINI
