The Tetra Whisper internal aquarium filter is the ultimate in quiet, convenient 3-stage filtration. The dual-sided mesh of the Bio-Bag® catches debris and fish waste while the activated carbon absorbs odors and discoloration. Biological filtration is provided by the Bio-Scrubber. Bio-Scrubber's anti-clog design provides complete biological filtration with the convenience of less maintenance. Because the Bio-Scrubber has a solid back, water is forced to flow evenly over the bacteria-rich bristles. The filter is submersible. NOTE: The filter now comes with a clip to hold the filter. If suction cups are needed please contact Consumer Services at 1-800-322-1266.
Whisper® Internal Aquarium Power Filters is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loud and noisy I purchased this a few days ago and since day 1 it has been making a terrible grinding noise! It is extremely irritating since my last Tetra Filter started doing this in just a few months of use. I will be returning it ASAP.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works as described. It is quiet as it says. Cannot use the clip provided. Doesn't allow for the hood/light to sit properly on the top of the tank. Using 2nd suction cup instead of the clip, just had to drop level of water a bit more than I like. Instructions were a little vague on how the filter and the scrubber are inserted but I think they are in correctly. Been running for a few hours now and the water is already crossing over the top of the filter cartridge. That shouldn't be happening already especially being new. Other the few problems, it works as described. Why I give it a Fair rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design. There is a basic design flaw in the Whisper 10i. Not all the water pushes to the front and if one is not careful water will run out and over the clip that holds the filter in place. The water runs over the clip and onto the floor. I have 3 of the filters and at one time or another each of them has overflowed over the clip. I will look for a better filter for a small tank.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible The filter stopped working and I was unaware of it. I came home my house was full of smoke. All of my fish were dead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This filler and my betta I just bought the whisper 10i filter and I like it so far I set it up and it is working well but the water current is a little to strong for my veil betta fish and he is having a hard time finding somewhere to rest being I don't have much things for him rest on but I guess with this new filter I will have to get more

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter My tank is nice and clean now.I bought mine at a store not on here. Mine only came with the filter. I didn't get the scrubber thing with mine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from set up not quite obvious, information missing I just bought a Whisperquiet 20i unit and it seems to be working nicely. However it wasn't quite obvious how to set it up. I know there are only 2 parts but the plastic piece fits nicely into the slot which seems to be for the filter. To make it even odder there are two indents near the inside front that fits the plastic part but doesn't hold it in place. Ignoring those oddities and putting the filter into the rear slots and letting the plastic part sit loose seems to be correct but a clearer diagram would have avoided the issue. Nonetheless the unit did a fine job cleaning my tank once it started.

My Tetra EX 70 just quit. I noticed no water flow. Took the filter out, cleaned it up put fresh filter bag in and plugged it in. The water level in the tank is full, but the pump won't prime itself. The filter is not a year old yet. Trouble shoot

Asked by: Maui C
It sounds like you need to pull the motor off of the front of it, and remove the impeller assembly. Soak it in a white vinegar solution, and while it is soaking, we'd recommend swabbing out the motor with a q tip and some vinegar. Rinse both well. I have the whisper 1-3 and this is my second in a year and it's doing the same thing, works great the first few weeks. The big plastic tube at the bottom fills with bubbles then spits it out at the bottom. What do i need to do

Asked by: Daniwino87
Most likely the little hole between the tube and the upper filter body is clogged or at least partially clogged. You will need to disconnect the air pump so you can take the filter body out and clean this area, but be sure to have a check valve in place in your air line tubing. If you do not, then raise the pump up so that water cannot back siphon along the tubing and into the pump. If you are unable to resolve this issue, please give us a call at 1-800-526-0650. BREX

Water is bubbling out of the little plastic tube that's at the base of the filter, where the tubing connects. Could the rubber gasket be bad, causing the water to leak out? If so, where do I get a new part since it doesn't look like it comes apart? Thank

Asked by: FL girl
It does come apart and there may be a clog of the opening between the two that is causing water to divert around. Try cleaning out the little hole. If you are unable to resolve the issue, please call us at 1-800-526-0650. We would be happy to help by replacing the filter system for you! BREX

Is the tetra whisper 2-10i safe for glow fish? Is the suction to filter to strong?

Asked by: KKelly2016
Yes, in an appropriately sized tank, this filter works great for glofish. Typically, when fish have an issue with a filter's flow rate, it is due to their being sick, stressed or experiencing a water quality issue within the tank. The tank recommendations for each filter that we manufacture has been proven over years of research to work for all fish within the hobby, other than of course, fry. Sponge filters are best suited to fry. BREX

I received a Tetra micro filter as part of the Tetra 5gal Betta Aquarium kit that I purchased from Amazon a few weeks ago. I have it plugged in and assembled properly and the filter is not clogged. It doesn't run at all since day 1. Advice?

Asked by: Omarrrrr
Remove the motor and slide the bottom cover off of it to pull out the impeller. Check for anything caught in the impeller or inside the motor, clean it if necessary, then re-seat it, and plug it back in. If it does not operate, please call us directly at 1-800-526-0650. BREX

I just bought this filter and I was wondering if there's a way you can turn the current down?

Asked by: Ashanta
Thank you for purchasing this Tetra product! Unfortunately, no, there is no flow control on this filter. If your fish are having a bit of trouble adjusting to the flow, test your water quality to make sure there isn't something stressing them out. You can also place a cluster of tall plants in front of the filter to break up the flow rate for them. BREX

My whisper filter is throwing water up and over the back of the tank, is there a way to fix this.

Asked by: Nate506
Your filter is adjustable so the top of it should be about one inch below the top of the tank. With it at this level, water cannot back out when the cartridge is clogged. Check and replace the cartridge, if necessary. Remove the motor and take the impeller out for cleaning in case it is clogged. If you need instructions on removing the impeller, please email us at techsupport.tetra-fish@spectrumbrands.com. BREX

If I use two of the 40i filters would that be enough filtration for a 60 gallon tank

Asked by: Smiley52179
Thank you for your interest in this Tetra product! It should provide enough, yes, as it certainly has the flow rate. However, how much filtration will be enough is also based on the type of animals you will be housing. BREX
