The Tetra Whisper internal aquarium filter is the ultimate in quiet, convenient 3-stage filtration. The dual-sided mesh of the Bio-Bag® catches debris and fish waste while the activated carbon absorbs odors and discoloration. Biological filtration is provided by the Bio-Scrubber. Bio-Scrubber's anti-clog design provides complete biological filtration with the convenience of less maintenance. Because the Bio-Scrubber has a solid back, water is forced to flow evenly over the bacteria-rich bristles. The filter is submersible. NOTE: The filter now comes with a clip to hold the filter. If suction cups are needed please contact Consumer Services at 1-800-322-1266.
Whisper® Internal Aquarium Power Filters is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 61.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loud and noisy I purchased this a few days ago and since day 1 it has been making a terrible grinding noise! It is extremely irritating since my last Tetra Filter started doing this in just a few months of use. I will be returning it ASAP.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works as described. It is quiet as it says. Cannot use the clip provided. Doesn't allow for the hood/light to sit properly on the top of the tank. Using 2nd suction cup instead of the clip, just had to drop level of water a bit more than I like. Instructions were a little vague on how the filter and the scrubber are inserted but I think they are in correctly. Been running for a few hours now and the water is already crossing over the top of the filter cartridge. That shouldn't be happening already especially being new. Other the few problems, it works as described. Why I give it a Fair rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design. There is a basic design flaw in the Whisper 10i. Not all the water pushes to the front and if one is not careful water will run out and over the clip that holds the filter in place. The water runs over the clip and onto the floor. I have 3 of the filters and at one time or another each of them has overflowed over the clip. I will look for a better filter for a small tank.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible The filter stopped working and I was unaware of it. I came home my house was full of smoke. All of my fish were dead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This filler and my betta I just bought the whisper 10i filter and I like it so far I set it up and it is working well but the water current is a little to strong for my veil betta fish and he is having a hard time finding somewhere to rest being I don't have much things for him rest on but I guess with this new filter I will have to get more

Rated 4 out of 5 by from set up not quite obvious, information missing I just bought a Whisperquiet 20i unit and it seems to be working nicely. However it wasn't quite obvious how to set it up. I know there are only 2 parts but the plastic piece fits nicely into the slot which seems to be for the filter. To make it even odder there are two indents near the inside front that fits the plastic part but doesn't hold it in place. Ignoring those oddities and putting the filter into the rear slots and letting the plastic part sit loose seems to be correct but a clearer diagram would have avoided the issue. Nonetheless the unit did a fine job cleaning my tank once it started.

Is there maintainence on the bio foam insert

Asked by: Mele
Yes, remove it monthly and rinse it in aquarium water you have removed during a partial water change. BREX

I have the tetra 1.5 gal tank for my betta Henry. I need to know if it matters which way the filter goes in the cartridge. For example, carbon facing the water or the white side. Thank you.

Asked by: Henrieta
Not really, but generally the white side faces the back of the tank so the water will flow through the fiber, and become trapped. BREX

I just bought a used 10i whisper filter, it did not come with the black sponge like filter. Can I still run the filter without it? I can not find this part anywhere

Asked by: Bailey2618
Yes, you can run it without the sponge, and just the cartridge. We sell the sponge on our site, and call it the bio foam: http://www.tetra-fish.com/Products/tetra-aquarium-parts/biofoam-and-grid-whisper-10i.aspx. BREX

is there any way to soften the water speed? i am using it in a turtle tank, 30gal, with shallow water, 8 inches high , its so loud, with the water flowing over the side.

Asked by: dee106
No, it does not have a flow control, and you would not want to reduce it anyway, since you need as much filtration as you can get for a turtle. Instead, raise the water level in the tank or lower the filter down, until the spillway is at the water level. Turtles love deep water, so in most cases, you want the tank to be 3/4 full, with just enough room for basking. BREX

Is this supposed to fill with water

Asked by: kara f
Kara, Once primed with water, then yes, the filter system will pull water from the tank and continue running. If this is the initial setup, you will need to fill the unit completely full of water to help with the priming of the filter. Christina

I can't get filter to produce air bubbles what is wrong

Asked by: Krysia
Well, filters don't product air bubbles, typically. The one pictured in the link you provided would not be able to produce air bubbles. If you have the Whisper 1-3i, that would be the only one we make that does actually produce bubbles. However, make sure you do not have any excess tubing, and that any flow or check valves are installed properly. BREX

My Tetra EX 70 just quit. I noticed no water flow. Took the filter out, cleaned it up put fresh filter bag in and plugged it in. The water level in the tank is full, but the pump won't prime itself. The filter is not a year old yet. Trouble shoot

Asked by: Maui C
It sounds like you need to pull the motor off of the front of it, and remove the impeller assembly. Soak it in a white vinegar solution, and while it is soaking, we'd recommend swabbing out the motor with a q tip and some vinegar. Rinse both well. If you are unable to resolve this problem, please reach out to us directly regarding your 3 year warranty at 1-800-526-0650. BREX
