Will this filter fit in my Aqueon 21220 hood?
Thank you for your question. I'm sorry though, I have no idea, since we do not make Aqueon products. Also, each filter varies a little in size.

I bought the whisper 60 filter for my 30 gal tank. From day 1, I noticed two things. 1) water was coming out from under the intake tube. 2) water is over flowing where the intake tube is. As the days go by, the water leaks into the tank even worse.
This usually means a clog of some sort. Even new, you could have pulled some type of grit, hair, or other debris into the impeller region of the motor or perhaps your cartridge clogged rapidly if the tank was already established. Take the filter off of the tank, and take it apart, checking the impeller, up inside the intake tube, and down inside the motor region for any signs of a build up or debris.
If you are unable to resolve the issue, please call 1-800-526-0650.

I have a Whisper Power 40 filter on my 20 gallon aquarium. The aquarium is solely goldfish (1-2 fish usually). Do I need to also have a separate air stone/bar to get enough water movement and oxygen exchange? My bubble bar is so loud it's making me crazy.
That depends on the size of the goldfish. If they are large, yes, I would have some sort of separate oxygen. If you are simply hearing the bubbles, make sure your water level in the tank is to the bottom of the top frame, this will greatly reduce the noise. If it is the air pump, make sure there is no restriction. No kinks in the tubing, no excess tubing, and if the tubing is discolored where it attaches to the pump, remove it from the pump and snip that portion off.

I unplugged the filter and it will not work now.
It probably needs the impeller, and the area in which it resides cleaned out. Use hot water, distilled white vinegar and a paper towel to clean them.

I bought a vintage 2.5 /3 gallon aquarium that is chrome trimmed. The smallest filter that you offer can't clip over the edge as its too wide. I'm looking at then exit size up but not sure if the tube will be too long. What's the length of the tube?
Assuming you are looking at the Whisper 10, the tube with the strainer is a total of 8".

Are Tetra filters suitable for marine aquariums?
I'm trying to gather the components necessary for a quarantine tank.
Yes! I use one on my saltwater tank! be prepared to replace the impeller every 6 months because the metal shaft starts to degrade and may start to become noisy... if you tolerate the noise long enough the shaft will rust thru and then you will definitely need a new impeller assembly.... I do and I would recommend these filters whenever applicable!

What is the estimated time period between manual rinsing of the bio-scrubber for the Whisper EX30 power filter?
You should perform this monthly.

When is it time to replace the entire filter system?
I'm performing twice a week water change, but my ammonia is still high.
That is not necessarily the filter system. You may be cleaning the tank too much, overfeeding, overstocked, have a test kit not working properly, of may have disrupted the biological cycle somehow. I would recommend adding Tetra Safe Start and discontinuing the water changes for one week.

Whisper 30 Power Filter
How often should the Bio Foam Pad be cleaned, if at all? When it needs to be cleaned, should I just run it under cold water? I understand that this is where the good bacteria will be and I understand that the carbon/filter cartridge should be changed once per month or when the water starts to run over the carbon/filter cartridge.
Yes, you rinse it at least once a month. Ideally, you should squeeze it out in a bucket of dirty tank water during a water change. However, I have certainly rinsed them with cool water before and had no issues.
The cartridge should be changed every 3-4 weeks, regardless of whether it is overflowing or not. The carbon is no longer functioning after that time.

What's the best placement for my power filter?
I have a 29 gallon freshwater aquarium. I have a Tetra Whisper 30 power filter. Is it best to place it dead center? To the left of the tank? To the right of the tank? Is one placement better than another?
No, there isn't one that is actually better than the other. Wherever you put it, that end or area, will be kept the cleanest and you just vacuum the other areas more when you do your partial water change. If you want even filtration, put a filter at each end of the tank.
Additionally, most hoods only allow for placement of filters in certain areas. Glass canopies give you the entire back to pick from, however.

Need Tube Extenders
I have a tall hexagon shaped tank (30 gallons) and am trying to use a Whisper 40 power filter. The connected tubes do not extend far enough down into the tank to
reach the recommended 1" above the gravel. I need to go down about 7-8" further. Where/how can I get the extension tubes?
You need the tube to be anywhere from halfway to three quarters of the way down in the tank. It cannot be any closer than 1" or it will suck up gravel, etc. It is definitely not required to be that close.
Parts are sold through independent, local fish stores, www.petsolutions.com and www.thatpetplace.com as well as www.amazon.com.

A friend bought a small filter for a 2 gallon tank. He used 2 already in less than a week because they turned the water black. What is going on?
Changed tank water, put in new filter, and still turned water black. Ran the filter under cool water before putting in tank, as directed.
As I have never seen water turn black for any reason, I have no idea what could be happening. Even if some of the carbon comes out of the filter cartridge, it does not contain a dye, so would not turn the water black, and it is pulled back into the filter immediately, in any case, or settles in the gravel. It is harmless. I suggest the person email us directly with UPC bar code from the product and pictures of what they are seeing.

can a heater be add to this filter
No. The heaters that Tetra have on the market need to be used inside of the tank itself with the fish, not in a filter system at all.

looking for an adjustable flow filter for small betta tank, less than 3 gallons
We do not make one per se but the Whisper 1-3i will work and is adjustable if you use an inline flow valve. It comes with an air pump. Accessories for air pumps include flow valves or gang valves, that you can purchase separately and use to adjust the flow rate of the air pump.

Output air pressure
What is the highest output air pump (in PSI) that you have?
We don't measure PSI. Largest is Whisper 300. It does 4.6 liters/minute at a depth of 24".

What are the flow-rate specs for the PF20? I have one on a "at capacity" 20-gal. community tank and it doesn'seem like it's meeting the suggested ideal of 3x tank capacity in turnover per hour.
The flow rate is 110 gph. If it is moving slow, take it apart, and clean it. Slime, sludge, hard water deposits, etc, affect it greatly.

how wide is your whisper for 60 gallon tank
I only have a 44 gallon tank but don't want to under buy the filter. the opening I have is 11 1/4 inches. Will a 60 gallon filter fit?
No, it is 13.5" long. Can you use two of the Whisper 40s? Is there room for two? Some hoods have additional cutout areas. Is this a Perfecto or Marineland 44 gallon pentagon tank?

i bought the whisper 20 2 days ago and it's really noisy!
I've taken it out several times and redone the set up but can't get rid of the noise. It's driving us crazy! Any suggestions?
Also, the flow is supposed to be adjustable but I can't get it to change no matter which way I turn it.
How do you get the adjustment knob on the tube to go in to the cover? The tube doesn't fit apart and it won't slide in to the cover.
I did not understand the last part of your question. The knob simply pushes down into the tube.
When you turn the knob, there is a plastic piece that is part of it that extends down into the tube. It will partially block the flow rate, reducing it at most by about 30%. This is not overly noticeable.
In regards to the noise, if there is an air stone near the tube or you have sand in the tank, these things will cause issues. If you do not, then call us directly and we can help you with a new impeller.

what are the dimensions of the whisper 30 and whisper 40 filters Also can a filter be too big for an aquarium. Like a whisper 40 on a 20 gallon tank
Whisper 30 - 8.5" L x 4.5" W x 8.25" H
Whisper 40 - 9.0" L x 5.25" W x 8.75" H
Yes, but it is rare, depending on the types of fish and size of the tank. What you are thinking of doing would be fine, however, as that tank has plenty of room. I have known hobbyists to put a Whisper 60 on a 10 gallon tank and had it work just fine.
