Rated 5 out of 5 by from Noisy? I have never had an issue with noise with any of my whisper filters and I have several tanks. If you look at the construction, the only way it could make noise is if someone is using it improperly, there are no parts that rub on one another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long lasting! I came to this site simply to look up the filters, but when I saw the negative ratings I just could not leave without leaving a comment. I have had a 10 Gal (since 1995) and a 20 Gal (since 2006) Whisper filter each, and they are still going strong. I have had to replace the impeller in each once. Other than that, they have been maintenance free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent filter for aquariums under 100 Gals. My Whisper 60 has excellent filtering properties and has the appropriate suction to handle the job. I have had aquariums for over 50 years -- from 5 gal to LARGE -- and my current tank is 55 Gal. I have used inside filters (corner and under-gravel) and outside filters, as well as canister filters, and the Whisper 60 is perfect for my 55 Gal. setup. Regarding complaints about noise, bubbles, etc; i believe (based upon past experience) such problems are usually caused because the filter tube pickup was too close to the sand which allowed sand to be picked up and the sand interfered with the impellers. Regarding noise, if the pickup tubes are NOT properly secured and the connections not tight, then air will infiltrate the suction tubes and create bubbles and produce noise. IF the tubes are connected property and are tight, IF the impeller is properly installed, and IF the pick-up tubes are kept away from the sand, this filter is very quite!! I suspect any reviews stating noise problems are probably due to improper assembly or installation. I have 2 Whisper 60 filters in use., Both of my Whisper 60 filters are quiet and problem free! A great filter and well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Filters I've been using Tetra Whisper 20,30 and 40 Power Filters for over 20 years and without any noise.Until better filters are made I'm sticking with Tetra Whisper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ok product, don't fall for the bogus $10 rebate Works well enough, but don't fall for the "up to $10" rebate sticker. It's only $5 when, because the higher amount only applies to a product that isn't found anywhere I can see -- stores, Tetra website, Amazon, etc.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from More like "hurricane" filter I'm not sure about the whisper aspect of this filter. I have been raising tropical fish for over 45 years and have used just about every type filter available. This filter is by far the noisiest filter I have ever encountered. How noisy is it? It's loud enough that I couldn't hear the running washing machine in the laundry room next to our family room where the tank is located. Again, having considerable experience with tanks and filters I tried all the "tricks" of the trade and nothing quiets the Whisper power Filter 60. Needless to say the filter is going back to the retailer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Filter I bought a Whisper Power 30 over 10 yrs ago for my 20 gallon tropical tank. My water was crystal clear, the filter quiet and the fish always healthy. It's easy to maintain and one of the best features of the filter is the ability to adjust the water flow. If not for the impeller wearing out and the cost to replace it being 1/3 the price of a new one it would still be in operation. So, I bought a new one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Loud I just bought a Tetra Power Filter 40 for my 37 gallon tank. I am not happy with how loud it is. I have used a whisper filter for my 10 gallon , which I was happy with, but bought a new larger tank and needed a larger filter. This one is very loud! Not sure what the "Whisper" stands for in the name

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it I bought 4 of these, and 3 keep turning off. Horrible!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Multiple Defects No Quality Control I went through two of these recently. Both only worked only intermittently. It was excessively noisy in both cases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Filter I got mine yesterday after my old Whisper Power Filter 20 broke. That thing was so loud. When I got this new one, the 30, I was expecting it to be louder. Imagine my surprise when I put it in my tank, and it is literally whisper quiet. It does a great job at cleaning all of the debris. I really love this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite and internal, best features I have a couple of these internal Tetra Whisper filters on my tanks. Most people do not have enough filtration in their tanks - go bigger or add a second filter. If you have a 29 the 10-30i will probably not be adequate. I love how quiet these filters are and also with it being internal you can have your tank closer to the wall. Even 2 of these on a 55 I don't think will be adequate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have been using these filters almost 2 decades and they are still the BEST!!!! I ventured away based on a recommendation of my LFS a few years a go for two new tanks but recently bought 2 new Tetra Power Filters to replace them... I never should have bothered with those other ones with the biological wheels.... The Tetra Power Filters have always been good reliable quite filters but most of all EASY TO DISASSEMBLE AND CLEAN!!!! And if you need replacement pieces they are readily available you don't have to buy the whole contraption! (but this will be years down the road) Very little has changed with these filters over the years (why would they? they work awesome!) so everything I've needed to maintain my more vintage ones still works and fit perfectly! Keep up the good work TETRA!!!! But don't change a thing! Two things I would like to see developed for this system is an accessory to allow it to be used as a vacuum on water change days so you can attach a flex hose of sorts to the intake tube and run the filter as a gravel vac! and I wish there was a ceramic or may be a titanium shaft available for the impeller Assembly as I do use this filter for one of my saltwater aquariums!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whisper filters are my absolute favorite...and I have used many brands. I bought my first Whisper almost 15 year ago...It is on my 20 gallon now and still running silent and strong. Fantastic filters and great prices led me to purchase a new Whisper on a new large aquarium I just bought. I will be purchasing more soon so all my tanks are filtered with Whisper filters. Quiet... Efficient and economical..great product. I highly recommend one to anyone with a aquarium of any size.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This product needs revised. After a week or two the cartridge kind of gets backed up from good bacteria. And the way the filter is designed you get too much back flow instead of the bad water going through the cartridge, forcing it to go out the back. And you can't control the flow which is very strong, too strong to function properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This filter is ineffective I have used the Whisper filter system for years and have been very pleased with them. Sad to see the old exterinal style phased out and had to purchase this in tank system. My tank developed a scum on top after a while and when cleaning out the tank after about 2 months of use (yes, I admit, I am a very bad fish tank caretaker) the filter still looked clean. The old style would have looked like a layer of mud caked on it. I will be looking for a new filter and it will not be a Tetra.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very loud I just purchased a whisper 60 filter and it is so loud I have to turn my tv up two times higher than normal cant here someone talk tow from across the room.it sounds like it is constantly trying to fill up with water like when you 1st plug the filter in an add some water that whirling sound but never goes away. I have had this product plugged in for two hours an it is going back to the store. I don't recommend this filter to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy yo use and very economical. A quality little H.O.B filter that gets the job done. I have 10 of these filters ranging in size from a Jr. on a 5 gallon tank to a whisper 5 on a 75 gallon tank. Some of my filters are over 20 years old and still performing well. My newest filter is the Whisper 60 that is installed in a 29 gallon tank. I chose this filter because of my past reliability results and the ability to control the flow rate. Most filters on the market today do not offer adjustable flow rates and to me this is a very important feature. I purchase a larger filter than the tank rating so if I need more filtration I can simply turn up the flow. When I don't need it I can simply turn it down. I like being able to turn the filter to low during feeding time so I feed the fish and not the filter. Filter replacement media for these filters is widely available and very economical.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product, Quiet, Easy To Assemble I got my first (real glass!) aquarium in January. It was a 15 Gallon Kit. It came with a Whisper PF10 and Heater. It was so easy to set up and assemble. The only problem I had was that it made a grinding noise, so I looked back at the instructions I had missed the important step of filling the filter box with water! Haha! xD Now it is working great, and my aquarium is fully cycled and home to a small school of Zebra Danios and a Bristlenose Plecostous. Thank you, Tetra! :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Power Filter 10-30 gallon I purchased a replacement Tetra filter, I was using the Whisper EX 20, but I was finding I was disassembling it so much because it was getting clogged so quickly. I also had to find filters outside of Moncton NB, ordering them on eBay. So, I purchased the Whisper Power Filter for 10-30 gallon tanks at my local Walmart. I wasn't impressed that there was no lid, nor a way to know when the filter should be changed (the EX 20 did). I found over a week or two the tank would get cloudy water because the filter wasn't filtering well-enough. It could just be the filter itself, since it was the one that came with the box. But, I'll buy a package of new filters and see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CLASSIC POWER FILTERS THAT WORK! I bought my first Whisper power filter 24 years ago for my first fish tank. I still use them because they work! They are so easy to use and have a low price. Nice and quiet too! They come with Bio foam to grow beneficial bacteria. The filter cartridges are inexpensive and trap a lot of dirt and gunk. I own 4 of these filters and love them! They practically last forever too! Why buy some complicated over-priced filter? Get one of these! A great investment for your fishy friends!
