First, make sure the water quality is good and balanced. Test the ammonia, nitrite, pH, and nitrate. Oh, and alkalinity. Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are the most critical and should be 0, 0 and <20 ppm, respectively. If they are not in good shape, this is what is causing the "fin rot". The tank must be in balance to give the fish the best chance of recuperating. LifeGuard is not suitable for new tanks because they are in a delicate state, and the medication can harm the bacteria. So if you must treat, we recommend Fungus Guard, with a partial water prior to each dose.
